With an interest radio and also in aircraft I soon found out that it was possible to receive signals from the aircraft and to plot them on a map.
I soon got myself a small dongle and connected this up to the small antenna that was provided with it. This antenna originally being designed for TV signals was cut down, to about 68mm, and then mounted on the roof.
This worked fine for a starting point. But soon I found designs to build my own collinear using satellite coax. This has now been assembled using 8 segments inside some PVC tube and then mounted up on the TV mast.
The computer has also been upgraded to a Raspberry Pi installed in the loft so that the coax run is as short as possible.
